Via

Art communicates beauty. Via means "way" in Latin, and I believe we each have our own way to create. This blog celebrates unique mediums of expression.

"View from Above" poem about Mississippi River from flight window: FL to STL 4/2010

"View from Above" poem about the Mississippi River

I wish I could feel

the rocky banks that angle down to the squishy bottom.

The mix of steely rock

and soft mud,

Like a nutty chocolate pudding pie.

Slide down that bank

and create my own grooves-

my own path:

as I descend onto my belly and wiggle in the mushy mud pie floor.

Until I look up,

beckoned by the white light above me dancing on the water's surface.

Hear me St. Louis!

"It's Complicated"

I love the phrase, "It's complicated." You have a friend who wants to know about:

The messy relationship that you so don't want to talk about:
It's complicated.

The workload build-up because you decided to watch The Godfather movies or have a Star Wars marathon:
It's complicated.

The bruise you got from walking into a glass window that appeared to be an open doorway:
It's complicated.

The time your car died because you ignored the LOW GAS warning for the past 20 miles and you had to call AAA to save you:
It's complicated.

The globular state of the mac n' cheese because you forgot to put the milk in it:
It's complicated.

The fact that you're living in your parent's basement to save money:
It's complicated.

Why I'm writing this poem at 6:28 am:
It's complicated.
